Parent Involvement

Parent involvement and participation is warmly invited and actively encouraged. You can participate in a variety of ways such as school council, parents and friends, working bees, excursions. camps, volunteering in the classrooms and just by staying up to date with school news and happenings.

Everyone’s contribution is valued and vital to the general administration of our school.

Just speak to your classroom teacher – or our Principal to find out more!

At Our Lady of Lourdes, we believe family-school-community partnerships support and benefit the school, the parents and especially the children.

Literacy:

Classroom helpers play a vital role in the successful operation of our Literacy program. At the beginning of each year a training course is provided for anyone interested in assisting with our Literacy program. Becoming a classroom helper is a great way to become more involved and we welcome your support and commitment.

PMP:

“The Perceptual Motor Program aims to develop a child’s perceptions and understandings of him/herself and his/her world through movement / motor experiences.” (Bulluss and Coles)

The Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) is offered in Terms 2, 3 and 4. The success of PMP is highly dependent on parent support. This is a fun and active way for helpers to become involved in their child’s early school life while meeting other members of our community.

Inquiry Hub:

Our Inquiry Hub offers an open learning environment where parents are often invited to join us in celebrating their childs’ learning at events family curriculum nights. Upcoming events are communicated to parents through our school newsletter or class letters

An important message to new parents to our school community is reflected in the Nigerian proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child.” As a school community, we strive to live this experience for each student. It is reflected in the relationships between parents, students, staff and the wider community.

We are very fortunate to have the support of a thriving parent community at Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School. Parents have every opportunity to participate in the the daily life of the school, which begins with the invitation to attend class prayer and meditation sessions in the classroom at the start of the day. Parents/ carers are also invited to participate in our classroom helpers program, attend incursions and excursions as well as participate in the Parents & Friends group.

Our P & F group are a great support to our community, through both their fundraising for classroom resources, as well as supporting the students to participate in special events (BBQ dinners at sports nights and family sessions, to organising Mother’s & Father’s Day stalls to reward the significant people in the lives of each student).

Parents also have the opportunity to be part of the Parish Education Board, which supports and advises the Principal on the future direction of the school. Parents are invited to nominate for a three year tenure on the Parish Education Board.

The school staff play an important role in supporting and informing parents on the progress of students. We actively encourage and support an open, two-way communication between school and home, to ensure that parents have regular input into their child’s learning and wellbeing.

Finally, we know that first impressions are important! We are very lucky to have a newly refurbished administration area, where the first point of contact, Mrs Angerosa, will kindly take care of the needs of all our Very Important Parents and visitors!
